Concertmaster
Véronique Mathieu

Canadian violinist Véronique Mathieu won many prizes in Canada before completing her Bachelor’s Degree in Music at the Québec Conservatory where she studied with Gisèle Van Bockern, Catherine Dallaire, and Jean Angers. In 2002 she was invited by Pinchas Zukerman to participate in his Young Artists Program. The following year she obtained an Artist Diploma with outstanding achievement in violin performance from McGill University as a student of Denise Lupien, and was a recipient of the Ethel J. Ivey Award, and the Lloyd Carr Harris Scholarship. Ms. Mathieu recently completed a Performer Diploma and a Master’s Degree in music at Indiana University with distinguished professor Miriam Fried while working as an Associate Instructor in violin.

Véronique has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Austria, Canada, France, Switzerland, and the United States. She is also an accomplished orchestral musician; she is currently the Concertmaster of the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, and has been the Concertmaster of the Indiana University New Music Ensemble and of the National Orchestral Institute, as well as a member of the Jerusalem International Symphony Orchestra and the Spoleto USA festival. She was recently invited to participate in the 2008 Lucerne Academy Festival under Pierre Boulez.

Ms. Mathieu broadcast recitals for the Canadian Broadcasting Company, Radio-Canada, the Classical Radio in Costa Rica, and the Radio Suisse-Romande. She was recently invited to perform and teach master classes in Costa Rica as part of the series Promising Artists of the 21st Century. She premiered many works written by American composers, and recorded for the CD series New Music at Indiana University, and the label of Radio-Canada. Recent performances include solo appearances with the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, and with the Indiana University New Music Ensemble on their East Coast Tour, the Midwest Composers Festival, a recording of Claude Baker’s Elegy for Solo Violin, and recitals in Canada and the United States. Véronique recently joined the new music group Kolot Ensemble, and is also a member of AVA Duo and Trio Micheletti.  

Véronique Mathieu is currently completing her Doctorate in violin performance under the guidance of Mark Kaplan at Indiana University, and is supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, and the Canada Council for the Arts.
