Dan McKinley, a native of Borden, Indiana, was choirmaster-organist of First Christian Church, Columbus, Indiana, from 1978 to 1997. In 1998 he served as interim assistant organist and choirmaster of Christ Church Cathedral, Indianapolis, and since then has been organist and choirmaster of Christ Church of Hamilton & Wenham, Hamilton, Massachusetts.
He is a graduate with distinction of the Indiana University School of Music and was awarded its Performer’s Certificate. As a tuba player, he was named the Outstanding Bandsman of the IU Marching Hundred.
He has been president and treasurer of Columbus Pro Musica, an advisory panelist for the Indiana Arts Commission, and a reviewer for The Republic, Arts Indiana, and The Hymn. He currently is registrar of the American Guild of Organists Boston chapter, has been dean and sub dean of the Merrimack Valley chapter, and serves on the Liturgy and Music Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts.
With David Bowden and the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic he has performed organ and orchestra works of Dupré, Elgar, Guilmant, Poulenc, Saint-Saëns, and Widor. Their recording of Marcel Dupré’s music for organ and orchestra was released in 1998 on the Naxos label. Performances have been broadcast on the syndicated radio programs Performance Today, Pipedreams, and With Heart and Voice.
