Raised in Borden, Indiana, Dan attended Indiana University School of Music, receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in organ performance. He was awarded the prestigious Performer’s Certificate. In addition to keyboard studies, Dan played the tuba and was named Outstanding Bandsman of the IU Marching Hundred.
Following graduation, Dan was hired as choirmaster-organist of First Christian Church, Columbus, Indiana, and served in this role from 1978 to 1997. After relocating to the Boston area, he was music minister of Christ Church of Hamilton & Wenham, Massachusetts for 11 years and now holds the same position with Christ the Redeemer Anglican Church in Danvers, Massachusetts.
While living in Columbus, Dan served as in various capacities including President and Treasurer on the Philharmonic Board of Directors. He also was an advisory panelist for the Indiana Arts Commission and a reviewer for The Republic, Arts Indiana, and The Hymn.
Dan is currently dean of the Boston chapter of the American Guild of Organists, past dean of the Merrimack Valley chapter, and he served for seven years on the Liturgy & Music Committee of the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts.
With Music Director David Bowden and the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, Dan has performed organ & orchestra works of Dupré, Elgar, Guilmant, Poulenc, Saint-Saëns, and Widor. He and David have also enjoyed organ-orchestral performances with orchestras throughout the Midwest. Their recording of Marcel Dupré’s music for organ and orchestra was released in 1998 on the Naxos label. Performances have been broadcast on the syndicated radio programs Performance Today, Pipedreams, and With Heart and Voice.
Dan met his wife, Tess, while living in Massachusetts. He and Tess were married in July 2012.
